Everything in my box!

img_1655
April’s theme was Blackberries & Bluebonnets and is here to help us celebrate springtime in Texas!

img_1656
My Texas Market includes a card with a little info about the products and their producers, plus where they are located and instructions for their use.

img_1290

My Texas Market mentioned that some fan favorites from last year have made their way into this box and if there’s one thing I’ve discovered from this subscription it is the always fabulous Texas Hill Country Olive Company. I have tried their olive oils and flavored balsamic vinegars and they are hands down the best! I love this Blackberry Balsamic Vinegar and used it to make a dressing for a salad. The vinegar itself is from Modena, Italy, and the blackberry lusciousness was added right here in the heart of Texas.

img_1478

Spring mix salad greens, feta cheese, craisins, toasted pecans, and a homemade creamy blackberry balsamic vinagrette.
img_1288

I was wandering through the jam aisle at our local H.E.B. Central Market and saw this on the shelf and was so excited, telling my family “look, I got that in my box!”. Jammit Jam Blackberry Star Anise Merlot is a sophisticated take on a classic flavor and while I tried it on buttered toast it would be extraordinary on a cracker with Brie or cream cheese. I make blintzes every once in a while and I think this might just put them over the top.

img_1289

Here are some other serving suggestions!

img_1286

Luna Tigre Bluebonnet Soy Candle has a lovely floral scent and is made with 100% soy wax. This Austin-based company makes the candles in small batches and this size should burn between 15-18 hours.

img_1284

I don’t really think of bluebonnets as having a scent and yet both this soap and the candle have a similar bright, floral fragrance. Kuhdoo Soap Co. Bluebonnet Soap makes this bar with saponified coconut oil, avocado oil, shea butter, organic goat milk, Texas raw honey, colloidal oatmeal, and high-quality phthalate-free fragrance oil.

img_1291

Aww, a bluebonnet in a box! Nature Favors Texas Bluebonnet Garden Kit

img_1294

The dirt is even in the shape of Texas!

img_1292

There’s a little pot to place the mini-Texas seed inside. Then add water and wait for it to grow!
img_1283

I ALWAYS enjoy getting my monthly taste of Texas! The items were perfect for the theme and any time I see Texas Hill Country Olive Company I do a little happy dance. Texas has some wonderful makers and this box features them to great effect. I love that My Texas Market takes the time to visit farmers’ markets across the state and then picks the best of the best!

img_9874

Everything in my box!

img_9929

I found some inserts and loved the card with info about bees!

img_9927

March’s theme was “The Bee’s Knees” and is all about our small little buzzy friends. My name means “honey bee” so I have a fondness for bees and honey. This card also says that April’s box theme will be “Blackberries & Bluebonnets”!

img_9928

My Texas Market includes a card with a little info about the products and their producers, plus where they are located and instructions for their use.

img_9882-1

Desert Creek Honey Raw Texas Honey Or as I like to call it, “liquid gold.” This is so good and has a pure, sweet flavor that is so much better than the stuff that comes in little bears from the grocery store. I used it on a wafflewich – toasted Nutrigrain waffles spread with peanut butter, sprinkled with raisins, and drizzled with honey. It’s also possible I just dipped a spoon inside and stuck it in my mouth. PS – if you really want your honey in a bear-shaped bottle you can find it on the Desert Creek website!

img_9883

SRSLY Chocolate + Two Hives Honey This is a special product that joins two Austin-based companies to produce a delicious item.

img_9893

The chocolate ganache features honey rather than sugar and the outer shell is made of dark chocolate for a sublime bite of bliss.

img_9886

Mind Your Own Beeswax Candle Company Citrus Sunshine Aromatherapy Candle is made from beeswax and pure essential oils and has a sunny, uplifting fragrance. I like to burn candles while I’m blogging to help me focus and relax.

img_9887

Gretchen Bee Ranch Lip Balm in Sweet Orange is silky smooth and left my lips soft and nourished. It is made with beeswax, coconut oil, shea butter, and sweet orange essential oil and smells delightful.

img_9888

Moore Honey Pure Beeswax Bars are made from 100% pure beeswax that has had dirt and other debris filtered out. It has a delicate scent and a quick search on Pinterest led to an assortment of “recipes” that call for beeswax. You can DIY your own lip balm, lotions, candles, and even solid perfume!

img_9875

I ALWAYS enjoy getting my monthly taste of Texas! I loved the bee theme and the products were all of high quality and fit the theme PERFECTLY! Texas has some wonderful makers and this box features them to great effect. I love that My Texas Market takes the time to visit farmers’ markets across the state and then picks the best of the best!

img_6894

Everything in my box!

img_6895

February’s theme was “A Taste of Texas” and keep a look out because there will be a sequel later this year! It also says that March’s theme is The Bee’s Knees, yes!

img_6897

My Texas Market includes a card with a little info about the products and their producers, plus where they are located and instructions for their use.

img_6903

Grapevine Grains can be found at farmers markets in the DFW area and offer various whole grain products, granola, and trail mix.

img_6905

Wow, this box included Corn Bread Mix and Southwestern Soup Mix!

img_6904

The back of the box provides instructions for use. The soup will take a bit of prep since you need to soak the beans for 8 hours plus cook for another 2 1/2 hours so I’m saving it for a weekend dinner. Look at those yellow beans, I’ve never even heard of mayocoba beans before but now I can’t wait to try them!

img_6902

I am a big tea drinker and according to the website, this stuff is Texan for tea! Catspring Pedernales Green Yaupon is made from a holly plant that is native to America and is a natural source of caffeine.

img_6899

I’ve never had jelly made with beer before but County Road Canning took a Texas favorite and made it into something you can have with breakfast! Texas Beer Jelly features Shiner Bock Beer and reminded me of apple jelly with a little something extra.

img_6898

I made some BBQ Baked Chicken Legs in the oven one night for dinner and basted them with SuckleBusters Original BBQ Sauce. This is not as thick as some of the ones I’ve bought from the store but the flavor was great and my chicken legs were tasty! Plus, there’s no MSG or gluten, only ingredients I can pronounce.

img_6907

I ALWAYS enjoy getting my monthly taste of Texas! I loved the theme and the products were all of high quality. Texas has some wonderful makers and this box features them to great effect. My Texas Market January 2017 Subscription Box Review

img_6801

My Texas Market is a monthly subscription box containing 4-6 items from small businesses in Texas that focuses on small batch and artisan products that fit a monthly theme. Have you ever wandered around the farmers market and wondered what to buy? It’s like they selected the products for you and shipped them to your house! The subscription is $35 a month or you can choose a 3- or 6-month subscription and save a little dough. Right now if you enter promo code 10FIRST you can save 10% off your first box! img_6802

January’s theme was “Rise and Shine” and featured items to get you up and going, or maybe to help you have a relaxing morning in bed! Everything was wrapped securely in bubble wrap with brown paper squiggles.

img_6884

My Texas Market includes a card with a little info about the products and their producers, plus where they are located and instructions for their use.

img_6803

Everything in my box!

img_6808

I am currently enjoying the warm, sweet cinnamon scent coming from The Tiny Collection Cinnamon Buns Candle. This all-natural soy candle is hand poured in small batches in Dallas and smells very nice! Sometimes candles smell different when burning but this one burns true.

img_6809

I don’t drink coffee regularly and have no way to grind the whole beans in District Roasters Farmer’s Market Blend Coffee. The flavor notes mention deep chocolate with caramel and cinnamon and while I wouldn’t mind making a mocha latte with it I will pass it on to a true coffee connoisseur. Hand roasted in Tomball.

img_6813

The King and I Blueberry Whipped Honey features crystalized honey, dried blueberries, and blueberry extract, perfect for topping biscuits or cornbread!
img_6815

I bet this would go great in baked goods too! I plan on whipping it with butter to top the pancakes I’m going to make with the mix shown below! The King and I is located in Willis.

img_6831

I may not drink coffee but I drink several cups of tea a day and this “Fake It ‘Til You Make It” mug from Blue Heron Farm is really cute and will make me smile each time I use it. Blue Heron Farm is located in Field Store, a little north of Houston, and they raise their goats on a sustainable farm and sell cheeses, cajeta, and other products!

img_6810

Bona Dea Gluten Free Baking Mix is a great starter for pancakes, waffles, or crepes and you can mix in your favorite “fun” ingredient such as berries, chocolate, or bananas. It was very considerate of My Texas Market to include a product that can be used by those who may be sensitive to gluten so they can have a yummy breakfast too! Made in Austin.

img_6805

I ALWAYS enjoy getting my monthly taste of Texas! I loved the theme and the products were all of high quality. Texas has some wonderful makers and this box features them to great effect. My Texas Market December 2016 Subscription Box Review

img_4800

My Texas Market is a monthly subscription box containing 4-6 items from small businesses in Texas that focuses on small batch and artisan products that fit a monthly theme. Have you ever wandered around the farmers market and wondered what to buy? It’s like they selected the products for you and shipped them to your house! The subscription is $35 a month or you can choose a 3- or 6-month subscription and save a little dough. Right now if you enter promo code 10FIRST you can save 10% off your first box! img_4803

This month’s theme was “Home for the Holidays” and featured items to help us get in a festive spirit!

img_4804

The product information card is very detailed and this month it had a little bit of a backstory from the owners of the companies that were featured!

img_4801

This beautiful Christmas card greeted me when I opened the box and looked rustic and colorful!

img_4802

Plus, festive confetti! All of the glass items were well protected with shredded brown paper and bubble wrap.

img_4805

This looks like it’s going to be a tasty box!

img_4810

I tried Jammit Jam Cherry Clove Cabernet on buttered toast but I think there are more sophisticated ways to use the rest of the jar up. Maybe with cheese on a cracker or as a baste for chicken breasts, either way, this is not like the stuff from the store. It isn’t too sweet and the cloves give the chunky fruit an unexpected lift. Biscuits, that’s what I’ll put it on!

img_4809

I haven’t tried The Barton Table Peppermint Chocolate Sauce on ice cream yet, but I am sure it is amazing. I just keep eating it one bliss-inducing spoonful at a time! Butter, chocolate, cream, and peppermint are an indulgent treat not to be confused with that stuff from the grocery store.

img_4806

I love the simplicity of this rustic-looking Texas ornament from Bleu Willow Market! If you like Fixer Upper and Chip & Joanna Gains or make pilgrimages to Magnolia Market then give this website a look because it has a selection of farmhouse casual items.

img_4812

This is the time of year when I frequently whip up small vats of Mexican hot chocolate and I usually top it with whipped cream out of a can but next time around I might try one of Michele’s Marshmallows to put it over the top. These bear little resemblance to the ones from the store and are pillowy soft and taste like brown sugar and vanilla.

img_4816

There is just the barest hint of crackly texture as you bite into this gooey treat.

img_4811

To wrap up this month’s box there was a deliciously scented Holiday Cheer Bar Soap from Kuhdoo Soap Co. The ingredients are so simple: saponified coconut oil, honey, oatmeal, Shiner beer, and fragrance oil. This soap smells sweet and spicy!

img_4813

I ALWAYS enjoy getting my monthly taste of Texas! These products fit the theme so well and were tasty, seasonal, and scent-sational. I love that My Texas Market takes the time to visit farmers’ markets across the state and then picks the best of the best!

This month’s theme was “A Day of Thanksgiving” and was full of products to help subscribers get in touch with their fall feelings, such as feeling warm and cozy. Or maybe that’s just how it made ME feel!

img_4156

This is such a lovely, detailed product information card and I love that the websites are listed because sometimes I need more and so it’s easy to order my new favorites from home.

img_4159

This box smelled delicious and I couldn’t wait to dig in!

img_4166

Stellar Gourmet Mulling Spice is a nice way to kick off the season. I have a couple of bottles of apple cider and red wine waiting for a cold front so I can put my new spices to use. They even included a muslin bag tucked inside the lid. Fortitude Provisions Co. Autumn Kindling Room Spray  has a cozy fireside scent thanks to cedarwood, orange, patchouli, and vetiver.

img_4169

Here’s a closeup of those mulling spices.

img_4171

I love that they included a recipe card!

img_4170
November is a wonderful time of the year to give thanks for our bounty and blessings. There was a little muslin bag that had a few pieces of paper inside that you could write your blessings on and then store them in the bag. Whenever you want to remind yourself of all that you hold dear just reach in and pull out a reminder.

img_4165

I loved the scent of the Benjamin Soap Co. Pumpkin Spice Candle! This candle is made from non-GMO soy and is scented with essential oils, plus it has a 35-hour burn time.

img_4164
I have been snacking on The Pecan Shop’s Apple Pie Pecan Halves. These certified pesticide-free nuts have been soaked in filtered water and are sweetened with apples, cinnamon, and wildflower honey. Garden Dreams Cranopeno Jelly  is a cross between cranberry sauce and jalapeno jelly and can be served with toast, as a glaze for meat, or with cream cheese or brie on a cracker.

My Texas Market September 2016 Subscription Box Review

img_2095

My Texas Market is a monthly subscription box containing 4-6 items from small businesses in Texas that focuses on small batch and artisan products that fit a monthly theme. Have you ever wandered around the farmers market and wondered what to buy? It’s like they selected the products for you and shipped them to your house! The subscription is $35 a month or you can choose a 3- or 6-month subscription and save a little dough. Right now if you enter promo code MAIL25 you will save 25% on your first box! You can also send the box as a gift or purchase previous boxes and some featured items in their Online Market. To subscribe to My Texas Market, click here. This box was sent to me for review purposes (thank you My Texas Market!!!).

img_2096

First look! My Texas Market does a great job at presentation and everything arrived safe and sound.img_2097

There was shredded paper and bubble wrap to keep the products from breaking.

img_2098

Everything in my box! It all looks so good. I always have a hard time trying to decide what to try first but I usually go for the sweet stuff.

img_2102

September’s theme was “Back to School”, which is pretty cool since I work at a school. Some of the products this month will be used at work!

img_2104

I love the detail that goes in to the product info card. It not only lists each item and why it is a standout, but where you can get some more of your favorites.img_2145I review several book boxes and if I ever have time to actually read one of my books I will make sure to use this lovely bookmark from ATX’s Sweet Time Design. These are hand-stamped by owner Chelsea on flatware she finds at antique shops and vintage thrift stores around Austin.

img_2138

I love granola and keep a steady supply of it on hand at all times so I was over the moon when I saw Kitchun’s No-Grain-Ola in not one but TWO different flavors! I decided this was more like trail mix and so I brought it to work for snacking right out of the bag. Both flavors are delicious!

image-6
You’re the Apple of My Chai and Holy-Coco-Cacao!

How gorgeous is this Goddess of the Sea Bath Soak from Sam Wish? Hand made in small batches here in Austin out of natural and organic ingredients, this soak has spirulina and gives the bath water a natural aqua color! I haven’t tried it yet but the scent is an uplifting blend of bergamot, marjoram, and clary sage. Even the bubble-wrap packaging was cute!

img_2143Did I mention I work at a school? I spend 8 hours a day teaching preschoolers at a public school so there is an endless supply of icky bugs. Hand sanitizer is a necessity and after the initial blast of alcohol, this one from Sasha’s Hand Poured left my hands smelling lovely. I adore the natural scent of lavender plus this one has aloe to keep it from drying out my hands.

img_2136

It’s time to start fall baking and the gluten-free Create-A-Muffin Mix from Whole Note will come in handy on busy school nights. I can just mix it up with eggs, milk, oil, and any stir-ins such as blueberries or chocolate chips and nuts. Come on cooler weather!

img_2148

I don’t know how My Texas Market does it. Every. Single. Month. They put out awesome boxes with great value and products that I never would have discovered on my own. I love the monthly themes, I love that this box can be enjoyed by both men and women (and teenagers, since they eat all my treats), and I especially love that these items represent our state so well. This month’s box had items from Austin and Cedar Park, Katy, and Dallas. If you would like to give My Texas Market a try then click here and get ready to enjoy the best of the Lone Star State!

P.S. What was your favorite item this month? I’m having a hard time choosing!

My Texas Market July 2016

img_0060

This box was sent to me for review purposes (thank you My Texas Market and Happy Birthday!!!).

img_0061

First look! My box was beat up in transit but everything looked great inside! The packing and presentation are always top notch with this box.

img_0063

The theme for July was “How Sweet It Is” and the products inside were geared towards helping celebrate My Texas Market’s first birthday.

img_0064

I love the detail that goes in to the product info card. It not only lists each item and why it is a standout, but where you can get some more of your favorites.

img_0062

Not only does My Texas Market send awesome “Made in Texas” products, they also give a portion of their proceeds to the Houston Food Bank.

img_0066

My Texas Market sent 5 items this month. The products just look beautiful, don’t they? So colorful and fun!

img_0067

First up was Outrageous Oatmeal Cookie Mix from Bona Dea. This is gluten free and allergy friendly as well as GMO free. I will have to save this for a few months because I do not bake in the summer. Ever. It just heats up my house too much, but I can’t wait to mix up a batch of chocolate chip oatmeal raisin cookies this fall!
img_0069

This seasonally appropriate Patriot Pop from Cornucopia Popcorn in Austin has red cherry, white sweet, and blue raspberry flavors and disappeared faster than a 4th of July sparkler. I am going to need to make a little trip downtown and grab some of their other awesome flavors!

img_0070

I am embarrassed to say that I was a little afraid to try Blue Heron Farm & Friends Original Cajeta because I am not crazy about goat cheese and thought this might have a similar foot stank smell but I was so wrong. This is the BEST caramel I have ever tried. It is so buttery and sweet and I need to get some vanilla ice cream ASAP so I can stop eating it by the spoonful. I guess I could dip some apples in it until I get to the store.

img_0071

What birthday party would be complete without a candle? This delicious smelling vegan Cupcake Candle from EcoBabe has a great scent and good throw. Plus it looks so darn cute sitting on my counter.

img_0075

If you were hoping to grab a second jar of The Peach Boys peach jam by EMZ Jamz you are going to have a long wait since it is out of season, but don’t cry because they have some other wonderful flavors to choose from! If you haven’t completely devoured this fresh tasting treat then try it with some brie or cream cheese on a cracker or mix with a little oil and vinegar to make a unique dressing for a summer salad.

img_0076

This box continues to amaze me! I love the monthly themes, I love that this box can be enjoyed by both men and women (and teenagers, since they eat all my treats), and I especially love that these items represent our state so well. As for the value, try walking around your local farmers market and see how much you can get for $25-35 and I think you will see this is a good deal, plus you don’t have to wander around in the heat, or the cold, or the rain. I spent $10 just for one jar of pickles y’all so I know those products aren’t cheap. If you would like to give My Texas Market a try then click here and get ready to enjoy the best of the Lone Star State!

P.S. What was your favorite item this month?

My Texas Market May Box Review “Backyard Barbecue”

My Texas Market is a monthly subscription box containing 4-6 items from small businesses in Texas that focuses on small batch and artisan products that fit a monthly theme. Sort of like visiting the farmers’ market, except they shipped it to your house! This box was sent to me for review purposes (thank you My Texas Market!).

The box presentation is one of the best! My Texas Market puts a lot of thought into their boxes. The tissue paper even looks like a picnic blanket. How cute is that?

My mom always told me that you can’t go wrong with a hand-written note!

The box contains eco-friendly shredded paper to help cushion the items. This box contained a lot of glass but everything was bubble-wrapped and arrived safe and sound.

May’s theme was “Backyard Barbecue” which is perfect not only for Texas but all over the country, with Memorial Day ushering in the grilling season for so many of us.

The flip side of the card lists the products and how to put them to use. I refer to it frequently.

There were a few inserts with additional information on which wood pairs best with different types of meat, how to brew various types of tea, and a coupon for Benjamin Soap Co.

Everything in the box. How do they pack so much in there? It looks great!

Larry’s Bag-of-Smoke Hickory Wood Chips ($4.99 value) Confession #1: Even though my husband grills, he has never smoked anything on the ‘cue (and yes, he is a Texas native!). So if we don’t actually put this to use, I know plenty of people who will. According to the literature included, hickory pairs well with ribs, brisket, and pork. I don’t have a link included but you can email Larry at larrysbagofsmoke@aol.com to order.

Benjamin Soap Co Bug Repellent ($6.67 value) This all natural bug repellent is from an Austin-based business and is a convenient roll-on formula. The citronella is strong with this one but it smells much better than the DEET based ones from the store. We had a mild winter and wet spring here in Central Texas and I have already been attacked by mosquitoes so I will keep this next to my back door and remember to use it if I dare to go outside to take out the trash or something.

White Cloud World Teas Peach Paradise Tea ($6.95 value) Here is another product from an Austin-based business and White Cloud World Teas are located “Steep in the Heart of Texas”.  This herbal infusion can be served hot or iced and since I was feeling under the weather I decided to go with hot. This is a fruity, luscious blend and has such a beautiful color from the hibiscus flowers.

Stellar Gourmet Foods Texas Triple Threat Mustard ($6.99 value) Confession #2: I have never tried habanero flavored anything but since I am recovering from a tummy bug this will have to wait a bit longer. It sounds delicious and contains tequila, honey, and Texas red grapefruit and promises a sinus-clearing experience. I think I will give a try with grilled sausage on a roll.

Spaulding’s Specialty Spices Smoke on the Barbie Rub ($8 value) I recently bought a smoked salt from the bulk bin at the store with no idea on how to use it, I just liked the smell. This is 100 times better. It can be used as a marinade or rub but I used it to season onions that I grilled in a little packet of foil with a pat of butter. A little goes a long way but it took the onions (which I placed on a burger) over the top. I linked to their Facebook page, where you can message them what you want and they will invoice you.

Kellie’s Baking Co Mason Jar Brookie We have come to the end of our little backyard BBQ but My Texas Market included a sweet treat to end the experience. I pack little desserts and dips in Mason jars to take to swim meets in the summer but I had never heard of a Brookie so I’ll let Kellie’s Baking Co describe it:

What is a brookie?  Our Brookie is a fudgy brownie baked with a chocolate chip cookie layer, topped with toasted marshmallows, chocolate ganache, caramel drizzle, cookie crumbs, powdered sugar and a kiss of sea salt, aka heaven!

I took a peek at it and placed it in the fridge. When I went to try it later on I couldn’t find it and no one is fessing up to taking it but I have my suspicions.

My Texas Market is one of my favorite subscriptions! This box has a little something for everyone and you don’t have to be from Texas to enjoy it. Has grilling season started in your part of the country? What do you like to grill?

My Texas Market April Box Review “Springtime in Texas”

My Texas Market is a monthly subscription box containing 4-6 items from small businesses in Texas that focuses on small batch and artisan products that fit a monthly theme. Sort of like visiting the farmers’ market, except they shipped it to your house! This box was sent to me for review purposes (thank you My Texas Market!).

My Texas Market does a great packing job! Presentation is important and this box always looks neat and as if it was packed with care. There was some literature on top so let’s take a closer look!

There was a card inside that tells a little about My Texas Market.

The theme for April’s box was “Springtime in Texas” and the items in this box fit that theme perfectly.

I love the detail on this product description card! It lists each item and where the company that created it is located.

Two of these companies are new to me but I have tried items from the other three. Everything looks so pretty!

Otavea Strawberry Body Scrub (4 oz, $10 value) I love strawberries and this scrub smelled so scrumptious so I tried it first. This stuff is practically edible but do yourself a favor and follow the instructions on the card that was included (shown below) and try it in your shower. No lotion needed after using this baby.

Grab Me. Scrub Me. Rinse Me. Done!

Mind Your Own Beeswax Candle Co. Medium Beehive Candle (3.5 oz, $8 value) I love candles but some of them can be overly perfumed but not this cute little hive shaped one. Even my husband commented on how nice it smelled when I burned it.

It even has little bees on it!

Texas Hill Country Olive Oil Co. Blackberry Balsamic Vinegar (100ml, $6.80 value) I LOVE Texas Hill Country Olive Oil and wrote a separate review on them that you can read here. Thanks to My Texas Market I am expanding my collection of olive oils and flavored balsamic vinegars. These are so good they are practically drinkable but try mixing it with some olive oil and a little salt and top your field green salad with this delectable mixture.

Brenham Kitchens Dried Strawberries (8 oz, $10 value) These are super sweet and a nice alternative to gummy fruit snacks. They taste good on their own but try topping a salad (such as the one mentioned above) with some chopped berries, mix with nuts for your own trail mix, or, as my friend suggested, top your oatmeal with these instead of raisins.

Kuhdoo Soap Co. Bluebonnet Soap ($6 value) I never really thought of bluebonnets having a scent yet my oldest said it smelled exactly like (wait for it) bluebonnets! I thought it had a floral scent mixed with a touch of grape Kool-Aid (I love grape Kool-Aid). Put this in a room that you want to smell good such as a guest bathroom.

Once again My Texas Market curated a beautiful box from the Lone Star State! All of the products are perfect for the theme and are enjoyable to use. Do you have a favorite farmers’ market find?
